The Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School at Donna Klein Jewish Academy is proud to offer students the opportunity to participate in our new Medical Studies Program. This new area of focus will allow High School students the opportunity to explore their interests in the field of medicine and science, along with club opportunities, internship opportunities and meetings with local medical professionals.
As part of our affiliation with the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, students in the Medical Studies Program and the Pre-Med Club experience unique learning opportunities in the medical field by visiting with faculty, medical students and researchers at FAU during the school year. These learning experiences may include the following: a conversation with medical students; a lecture on medical ethics; a visit to a research laboratory; a meeting with an admissions officer; and an afternoon in a clinical simulation laboratory, among other enriching offerings.
Students in the Medical Studies Program will be required to take Biology, Chemistry and Physics, along with an additional science course during their academic career. Rosenblatt High School also offers the following courses: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Environmental Science and Anatomy and Physiology. In addition to these core courses, various electives may be offered to students including, but not limited to Bioengineering, Genetics, Forensics, Laboratory Techniques and independent study with a faculty advisor.
Membership in our Pre-Med Club is required in order to participate in the Medical Studies Program. The club offers students the experience to come together with other students who are also interested in a career in medicine, learn about the diversity of opportunities in the medical field through interactions and lectures with visitors and guest speakers, and design activities that further advance their interest in this field.
Upon completion of four science classes outlined above with an average score of an “A-,” participation in the Pre-Med Club for two years, and participation in at least one full-year of visits to the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, DKJA will award the student with a Certificate of Completion and Academic Excellence in the Medical Studies Program.
In addition to the basic requirements of the Medical Studies Program, we highly encourage students to consider independent research in the field of medicine and Science, under the guidance of a faculty mentor, and internships in the medical field. Our faculty and administration will assist interested students in identifying appropriate opportunities.
Any student participating in this program will be enrolled in the appropriate math courses to support their Science education.
We are extremely pleased to introduce this program to further augment our college preparatory curriculum, and to demonstrate our commitment to educating today’s learners to be tomorrow’s leaders.
